Type of lesson:

Integrated Skills

Teaching aims and learning objectives:

The students will be able to:

1. know some useful expressions

2. learn how to look after the goldfish and other pets

3. improve the abilities of listening , speaking, reading and writing

Focus of the lesson and predicted area of difficulty

1. To learn how to look after the goldfish and other pets

2. To learn how to obtain and consolidate information from listening.

Teaching procedures:

Step1. Lead in

The teacher shows some pictures to the students. Ask the students: Which is your favourite pet? Can you tell me why?

Step2. Presentation

1.    Read aloud the poem about My goldfish on Page 94 and then discuss the questions about goldfish.

2.    Q:Do you know how to look after a goldfish?

Then discuss some questions with partners.

1).Can you put a goldfish in the sun?

2).Is a goldfish heavy?

3).Does a goldfish weigh several kilograms?

4).Does it need clean water?

5).Can you pick them up with your hands?

6).Does it need special fish food?

7).Is it difficult to look after a goldfish?

8).Is a goldfish very expensive?

Step3. Listening

1.    Listen to the tape carefully and write a T or an F in Part A1.

2.    Listen to the tape again carefully and complete the notes in Part A2.

Step4. Exercises

Finish the exercises on Page 100.

1.    Prepare by yourselves.

2.    Work in groups to read the conversation aloud and understand it.

3.    Each group reads a sentence once.

4.    Ask some questions about the letter and pick out some language points.

5.    Work in groups to solve your problems.

6.    Master the useful expressions.

Step5.Speak up

1.Peter’s friends have different pets. They are talking about their pets. Listen to the recording and tell how they look after their pets.

2.Listen to the recording and fill in the blanks. Go through some useful expressions and language points.

Step6.Extra exercises

1.Get students to watch a video of Ten Promises to My Dog and answer the two questions:

1).Does my dog have many friends?

2).How long can my dog live?

2.Listen to Ten Promises to My Dog and fill in the e-mail.

Step7.Homework

1.    Finish the exercises in the workbook.
